How to Write a CV for Your First Job (With No Experience)

Updated · LKOJobs

A CV is a one-page summary that tells an employer who you are, what you have studied and what you can do. You do not need work experience to write a good one.

What to include

  1. Name and contact: full name, mobile number, email, city.
  2. Career objective (2–3 lines): the job you want and what you bring. Example: "Hardworking B.Com graduate with good knowledge of Tally and MS Excel, looking for an accounts assistant role."
  3. Education: latest first — course, school or college, board or university, year, percentage.
  4. Skills: computer skills, languages, typing speed, and job skills such as Tally, sales or customer handling.
  5. Projects, training or part-time work: a computer course, an internship, helping in a family shop, college events you organised.
  6. Achievements and certificates: CCC, O Level, NCC, sports, scholarships.
  7. Languages: Hindi, English and any other.

What to leave out

  • Father's name, religion, caste and marital status — not needed for private jobs
  • A long "declaration" paragraph
  • Skills you cannot actually show in an interview
  • Fancy fonts, colours and borders

Rules that make a CV look professional

  • One page for a fresher
  • One simple font, 11 or 12 size
  • Check spelling twice; ask someone else to read it
  • A sensible email address using your name
  • Save it as a PDF named "YourName-CV.pdf"

Change the CV for each job

Read the job description and bring the matching skills to the top. A CV sent for a sales job and one sent for a data-entry job should not be identical.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How do I write a CV with no experience?

Put your education, skills, projects, training and achievements first. Add a two-line objective saying which job you want. Internships, computer courses and part-time work all count.

How long should a fresher CV be?

One page.

Should I add a photo to my CV?

Only if the job advertisement asks for it. Most private employers in India do not need one.
