How to Fill Government Job and Exam Forms Online: Where and How

Updated · LKOJobs

Dates, fees, age limits and amounts change every year. Always read the latest official notice on the website named below before you apply.

Thousands of forms are rejected every year for small mistakes — a wrong photo, a spelling different from the marksheet, a fee that did not go through. This guide shows where to apply and how to fill the form correctly.

Where to apply: official websites

RecruitmentOfficial websiteFirst step
SSC (CGL, CHSL, MTS, GD)ssc.gov.inOne-Time Registration (OTR) on the new website; an OTR made on the old site does not work

UPPSC (PCS, RO/ARO and others)uppsc.up.nic.inOne-Time Registration, then apply to the notice
Railway (RRB)rrbapply.gov.inCreate an account once; the details cannot be changed later
Banksibps.in and sbi.co.in/careersNew registration for each notice

Always type the address yourself or open it from the official notice. Fake websites with similar names collect fees and personal details.

Keep these ready before you start

  • Aadhaar card and the mobile number linked to it
  • Your own email address and mobile number that will stay active for at least two years
  • Class 10 marksheet (name, date of birth, parents' names exactly as printed)
  • Class 12 and degree marksheets with roll numbers, year and percentage
  • Caste, EWS, domicile and income certificates if you are claiming them, in the format and date range the notice asks for
  • A recent passport-size photograph on a plain light background
  • Your signature in black or blue ink on white paper, scanned
  • Debit card, UPI or net banking for the fee

Filling the form, step by step

  1. Read the notice fully — eligibility, age on the cut-off date, required certificates.
  2. Register with your name and date of birth exactly as on the Class 10 certificate. Verify the mobile and email OTP.
  3. Save the registration number and password in a notebook, not only on the phone.
  4. Fill personal and education details. Enter marks exactly as on the marksheet.
  5. Upload photo and signature in the size and format the notice gives (usually JPG within a set number of KB). Some forms, such as SSC, take a live photo through the webcam or mobile app instead.
  6. Choose exam centres and post preferences carefully; these often cannot be changed.
  7. Preview every page before final submission.
  8. Pay the fee and wait for the confirmation page. If money is deducted but the form shows unpaid, wait for the time stated in the notice before paying again.
  9. Download and print the final form and the fee receipt. Keep the PDF in your email too.

Mistakes that get forms rejected

  • Name or date of birth different from the Class 10 certificate
  • Blurred, old or wrong-size photograph; signature in capital letters
  • Wrong category, or a certificate issued outside the dates allowed
  • Applying on the last day, when the website is slow
  • Using a cyber café's email or mobile number
  • Submitting two forms for the same exam

If you need help

A Jan Seva Kendra (Common Service Centre) can fill the form for a small service charge. Sit with the operator, check every entry yourself, and take the printout and your password with you.

After the form

Check the official website regularly for the admit card, exam city and result. Commissions do not telephone candidates, and nobody can get you selected for money.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Where can I fill government job forms?

Only on the official website named in the recruitment notice, such as ssc.gov.in, upsssc.gov.in, uppsc.up.nic.in, rrbapply.gov.in or ibps.in. You can fill it yourself on a phone or computer, or at a Jan Seva Kendra.

What is one-time registration (OTR)?

OTR stores your basic details once on a commission's website. After that you log in and apply to each new exam without entering them again.

My fee was deducted but the form shows unpaid. What should I do?

Wait for the settlement time given in the notice, then check the payment status. Pay again only if the notice tells you to; a failed payment is normally refunded to the same account.

Can I correct a mistake after submitting?

Some recruitments open a correction window for a few days, sometimes with a charge. Details such as name and date of birth in a railway account cannot be changed, so check before you submit.
